Do you love the new you?

You need to learn to love the new you and not hate the old you of the past.

I’ve met many people who can’t let go of their past behaviors or identities. They are stuck in the failures of their pasts or the labels that have been slapped on them.

I grew up as an athlete. My identity was stuck in this narrow label. People saw me that way, and I saw myself that way. I can confess, I struggled with this old identity. 

Can you be completely honest about your childhood? Were you labeled a nerd, jock, ugly duckling, spazz, somebody dumb, somebody bad at math, a slow learner or a trouble maker? I’ve heard some parents call their children some horrible names like idiot, demon, retard, little devil, incorrigible or hopeless. I’ve even heard some speak death into their children’s futures, like: “You’ll never amount to anything”, “God is going to get you for that”, or “that’s totally unforgivable.” 

That’s not what God thinks about you. He says this about you: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9, NIV)

Can you repeat this after me today? “I’m royalty, chosen, holy, special and part of the light.” Isn’t that incredible and wonderful? And the most brilliant part is that He qualifies you. All you need to do is receive it, believe it and act like it’s true…because it is.

You should fall in love with the new you: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV)  

Be the new you He’s called you to be, and leave the old you in the dust.

You’re a miracle.
