As White as Snow
I grew up in Manitoba, Canada. From the end of October to the beginning of April, there was one dominant weather pattern that brought two unignorable elements of a Manitoba winter...cold and SNOW!
Every winter, the ground would be covered in a blanket of dazzling white that often took my breath away (quite literally when it was -40 degrees Celsius) and often blinded me with its brilliance.
I used to love the snow. I loved the sound that my boots made as I crunched across the snow on my way to school. I loved the snowmen that we used to make as kids. I loved hockey, cross-country skiing, sledding, and making snow forts with my childhood friends! Snow can be beautiful when you know how to live with it!
If you live in a part of the world that does not experience snow, I want you to close your eyes and imagine the most brilliantly white and pristine covering that stretches as far as the eye can see! It truly is breathtaking.
As I picture the snow of my childhood in my mind’s eye, I am prompted to think of how God uses the picture of snow to encourage my heart and to think of a miracle. Listen to these words about the miracle of God’s power!
“Have you entered the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of the hail, which I reserve for times of trouble, for days of war and battle?” (Job 38:22-23, NIV)
Or, how about the miracle of God’s appearance?
“.... someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.” (Revelation 1:13-14, NIV)
Or, how about the miracle of God’s grace?
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18, NIV)
friend, the miraculous God that you serve stores up snow for the time when it is needed. The miraculous God that you worship has the appearance of dazzling snow. The miraculous God that you called out to when your sin was too much to bear, made you a promise that no matter what has happened in your past, YOU can be washed as white as snow!
As I am looking out the window of my office, I can see a snow-capped mountain. What a miraculous sight! More than just the view, I know the God who put every single flake of snow on that mountain and SO DO YOU!!!!
You are a miracle!
