Choose to love

Publication date Jan 21, 2022

The Beatles once rocked the cultural landscape of the 1960s with the simple ballad “All You Need is Love.” I remember watching the members of this crazy band on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. They had long hair and cool clothes. They spoke with wild British accents and introduced society to a new sound and a message that monopolized the world: peace and love.

Have you ever watched the first television appearance of the Beatles? There was something about this band’s message that captured the hearts and minds of the world. I believe the world is still looking for the same message today: love.

I’ve made another big choice for 2022: “If it’s not coming from a place of love, I don’t want it.” While the world chooses fear, I choose love. The Bible says, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18, NIV)

friend, will you choose love in 2022? If you choose to love, you will need to do a few practical things like:

  1. Forgive other people for all the lies they’ve said and hurts they’ve caused.
  2. Forgive yourself for all your mistakes and sins.
  3. Ask God to forgive you.
  4. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with God’s love.

Paul the Apostle spoke about this love: “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13, NIV)

Recently, I had the privilege of meeting with a few state officials. My friend Peter used his influence to gather top decision-makers to discuss the hurts and needs of Nevada. Peter is a very successful businessman, but he hasn’t forgotten to love the veterans of our state, the poor, and the marginalized. Peter loves using his influence, wisdom, and resources for others. The Bible says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25, NIV) Peter is a generous man.

Love looks like generosity, friend. Would you join people like Peter in 2022 by loving others with your generosity? Please give your time, energy, resources, and affection to the people who need them. By choosing this lifestyle, you become a miracle.
