Do it—despite disappointment

Do you even feel like doing good for others anymore?
Recently, I’ve been so deeply disappointed by other Christians that I had to ask myself: “How can I get back the joy—of giving, helping, trusting—even though I’m hurt?”
Maybe you’ve been there: You give your best—your time, love, maybe even money to others, and in return you get rejection, misunderstandings, or nothing at all. Eventually, you just don’t want to anymore. Trust becomes hard.
But then I came across this one verse where it says about Jesus: “Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the very end.” (John 13:1 NIV)
He knew (yes, even then!): One would betray Him. One would deny Him. The rest would abandon Him.
And still…❗️“He got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” (John 13:4-5 NIV)
Jesus stood up—despite disappointment. Wouldn’t we have stayed seated? He tied a towel around His waist—despite disappointment.
friend, this has such deep meaning! At that time, foot washing was the job of the lowest household servant. A spiritual teacher like Jesus would never have washed feet—it would’ve been beneath His dignity.
And still, Jesus did it—despite disappointment.
Why?Because His love was not dependent on the behavior of others.Because He didn’t act out of hurt—but out of identity.Jesus knew who He was—and whose He was:
“Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God.” (John 13:3 NIV)
friend, that hit me deeply.
If I know that everything I have comes from God—and that I belong to Him—then I no longer need to let disappointment paralyze me. 🤩
Then I no longer ask: “How much did that hurt?”
Instead I ask: “How often has God carried me?”
friend, stand up—because Jesus wouldn’t have stayed seated either!
Stand—despite it all—and experience your turning point. Back to joy. Back to trust. Back to Jesus’ will for your life. 💚
You are a miracle!
