Don’t miss the boat

Publication date Feb 18, 2021

Have you ever missed a bus, metro, or flight? I have, and it’s embarrassing, frustrating, and downright costly. Jesus warned the apostles to “...not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, ‘which,’ He said, ‘you have heard from Me;’” (Acts 1:4, NKJV).

They had a very important meeting with the Promise of the Father. They had heard about this promise in Luke 24:49: “‘I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’” (Luke 24:49, NIV) So Jesus must have been very serious about the location and timing of the meeting. I love how He described the Promise: “you will be clothed with power from on high.” That sounds so crazy. I can only imagine what they thought about the power from on high. friend, have you ever received the power from on high?

In Acts 1:5, Jesus described it further: “‘For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’” (Acts 1:5, NIV)

friend, let’s unwrap a few important details of the Promise:

  1. Don’t leave Jerusalem until the big event.
  2. It’s a promise from the Father.
  3. It will come in the form of the power from on high
  4. It will be the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  5. Jesus will send Him to you.

The disciples had probably all been baptized by John. They understood the concept of being dunked in the Jordan River. I was privileged to get baptized in the Jordan last year. Wow! I’ll never forget it, and I’m sure that the apostles could easily comprehend the analogy. friend, have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit?

The book of Acts described the Promise of the Father in vivid detail and prepared the disciples to catch a moving train of power, spirit, and miracles. You can start asking Jesus today to send the Promise your way because you are a miracle.
