Even the Wind Obeys Him

Publication date Aug 5, 2022

Hello, friend!

I have had the privilege of being out on a boat on the Sea of Galilee. What an honor! On one of our trips to the lake, I had a chance to speak to the captain of our boat. I asked him about the "storms" that were talked about in the Bible, and he taught me many new things. He told me that the Sea of Galilee is the only body of water in the world where four different weather patterns can converge simultaneously. This weather effect can produce severe storms so quickly that even a boat with a strong motor can get stranded out on that lake.

As we talked, I noticed that he suddenly tipped his head and gestured for me to be quiet. When he resumed talking, he said, “The valley behind us is called “The Valley of the Dogs”. When a wind begins to stir from that valley, you have about ten minutes to get to shore or you will be in deep trouble. I thought I felt a stirring, that is why I asked for silence!”

I was grateful there was no storm at that moment! The Bible tells us of a moment when there was a windstorm on that very lake:

“That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” (Mark 4:35-41, NIV)

My favorite part of this story are the words of Jesus, “Peace Be Still”. One translation of these words says, “Little dog, be quiet!” I love that I serve a God who talks to the wind as though it is a puppy!

I also love the words of the disciples, “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him!”

friend, today, the One who can calm the wind is guiding you throughout the day.  No matter what storm you may be encountering, everything that makes up your storm MUST respond when the God of Heaven says, “Peace be still!”

There is miraculous peace available to you today. You must only look to Jesus, the God of the wind, and trust that He can make your world completely calm.

Take a breath. Breathe in God’s peace right now.

You are a miracle!
