Grace is amazing

Publication date Nov 8, 2021

Grace is one of my favorite subjects. So this week in A Miracle Every Day, we will develop the concept of grace.

When I first found Christ, worship music was not like it is now. Most churches I visited sang out of old hymnals with tunes that had been crafted 300 years earlier. Don’t get me wrong—I love the old hymns!—but the worship songs of 2020 and 2021 seem to be at a whole different level. Back in the ’80s, the golden oldies were about the only tunes we had. Then Eve, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Ron Kenoly, Keith Green, and Leon Patillo started to change the worship landscape.

One old hymn always moved me: “Amazing Grace.” Although John Newton wrote it nearly 250 years ago in 1772, it still speaks to my soul. You see, friend, I wasn’t raised in the church. I felt badly for the things that I had done, said, and thought. Grace was the only thing that seemed to help me, touch me, and cleanse my dirty soul.

friend, maybe you need these lyrics today:

Amazing grace, how sweet the soundThat saved a wretch like me.I once was lost, but now I’m found,Was blind, but now I see.

Maybe you need more of the grace of God today. Don’t forget grace is His unmerited favor. It’s the forgiveness that we all need to feel cleansed and whole again. We can’t earn grace—it’s a gift. As the Bible says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV) Grace is a free gift from God that you can take hold of today. You don’t deserve it, and your work will never earn it...but it’s real, powerful, and free.

All you need to do is ask with just a little bit of faith. Then watch God do it for you because you are a miracle. And I love you more than puppies.
