Is it God’s will to heal people?

Publication date Aug 17, 2020
Sickness, pain and death are some of the most difficult circumstances I’ve ever had to face. None of us are ever really prepared for the day sickness or death knocks on our doors. Most of us have not developed a theology that helps us deal with all the pain, expense and confusion.  friend, I’m sure you’ve had to face these trials as well. How did you deal with all the pain? Did you ever blame God or cry out to Him for mercy? Paul, the great Apostle, suffered from some unspoken sickness. He sought God for healing, but God gave him clarity instead: “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV)  friend, I’ve seen thousands of people healed, and I’ve seen thousands who never received healing. I’ve come to this conclusion: God is always good. I don’t know why everyone isn’t healed.  Jesus seemed to heal almost everyone. In the synagogue of Nazareth, He spoke about His mission to heal people: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;” (Luke 4:18, NKJV). Jesus also said puzzling things like “...Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” (Luke 18:42, NKJV) Was He healing them, or was their faith in Him healing them? I admit I can’t always figure it out, but I still pray for the sick. He never asked me to sort it all out, just to obey in faith. At a particularly rough season in our ministry, I leaned on a song by Wayne Watson, "Home Free", whose lyrics helped me keep the faith in the midst of a lot of loss: “Home free, eventually At the ultimate healing We will be home free Home free, oh I've got a feeling At the ultimate healing We will be home free” friend, I’m praying for you right now. No matter what trial or battle you are facing, God is good, and He will help you through it.  You’re a miracle.
