We do not know what to do…
Once, a very close friend sat in my office with his head in his hands. He was in an impossible business situation. His company was being threatened by a larger entity, and they were forcing him to make a choice: sell or lose everything.
As he sat there, my heart went out to him, especially when he said, "I have no idea where to turn or what to do." He said that his prayers felt unanswered and that he didn't even know what to say to God anymore. He looked at me for some kind of wisdom.
This is what the Holy Spirit of God whispered in my ear. I said, "You're in a situation just like the Israelites. There was a king named Jehoshaphat who was facing the impending invasion of an incredible army. He prayed, reminding God of His character and His promises to give Israel the land that they inhabited.” And these were his words:
“Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. (2 Chronicles 20:12, NIV)
I reached across the sofa, grabbed my friend by the hand, and said, "You need to know this: you may not know what to do, but keep your eyes on Jesus."
In the case of Jehoshaphat, this is how God responded, speaking through another man. He said, "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow, march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the desert of Jeruel. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, for the Lord will be with you." (2 Chronicles 20:15-17, NIV)
And then it says, "Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord. Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice." (2 Chronicles 20:18-19, NIV)
When my friend heard these words, he looked at me and said, "I know exactly what to do. I'm going to trust God no matter the outcome. I'm going to worship no matter the outcome. I'm going to believe that God is going to fight this battle for me."
YES!
That is exactly what happened. God delivered his company and his future. Specifically, I believe, because my friend chose to trust in Him.
If you feel trapped in darkness today with no other option, look to God in faith and ask Him to act. Living by faith is like following a rope that leads us out of the darkness. And just like my friend, you can do that through trust and worship.
Never forget, you are a miracle.
