What can we learn from Mary?

Publication date Dec 6, 2025

Today, Christmas often feels romantic, doesn’t it? 🥰

Beautiful candlelight. Soft music. A Christmas tree. A peaceful atmosphere. Even the relatives we try to avoid all year long are welcome at the Christmas table…

But for Mary, Christmas began nine months earlier—and it was anything but romantic or peaceful. We don’t know much about her family, but she probably came from a simple but God-fearing home.

What’s remarkable, though, is this: despite her young age—likely a teenager when she became a mother—she knew the Scriptures by heart.

We know this because when she visited Elizabeth and realized, “I didn’t just believe blindly—it’s true! It’s really happening!” she immediately began to praise God.

The words that came from her mouth were ones she could only have known because she knew the Scriptures. Her song is filled with quotes from the Psalms and the Prophets. Take a look at what she sings in Luke 1:46-49:

“My soul glorifies the Lord And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” (see Psalm 34:3; Habakkuk 3:18)

“For he has been mindfulOf the humble state of his servant.” (see 1 Samuel 1:11)

“From now on will call me blessed,For the Mighty One has done great things for me—Holy is his name.”(see Psalm 71:19)

-Luke 1:46-49 NIV

We could go through Mary’s entire song this way—but what matters most for you today is this: Mary was a simple young girl, one whom no one would have ever expected to carry such a destiny.

But she KNEW the Word. And here’s the key point: she BELIEVED the Word!

Because knowing and believing are two very different things. So take your time—and choose to believe for yourself.

Stay close to God’s Word—and you’ll see the unexpected, WONDER-ful things it can do in your life… when you know it… and when you believe it!

You are a miracle!
