Can you slow down a second?

Publication date Jan 6, 2026

I don’t know about you, but when I want things to change, I want things to change right now. And a new year awakens an impatience inside of me for change. I want to change my physical body, my spiritual heart, my relationships, my job—everything in my life. And I want it to happen yesterday.

The reality is that growth often takes a long time. When you plant a seed, it doesn’t show up tomorrow as a fully grown plant. You have to plant it, water it, wait, and trust that something is happening beneath the soil. Even when that seed begins to emerge, it’s still a long time before it will bear any fruit or vegetables.

This season and the distance between planting and harvesting often test even the most mature person’s faith. What God is asking us to do is to trust Him—that growth will unfold in His timing and in His season.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV)

As we begin this new year together, let’s trust God’s timing. Let’s trust God’s purpose. And let’s trust God’s plan.

I’m always tempted to rush the process. But when I refuse to speed through, I find that the waiting room of faith is often where my maturity shows up and grows the most.

So, as you’re tempted to microwave your spiritual journey this year, can I encourage you to be in it for the long haul? Take your time. God is not in a hurry, so you don’t need to worry.

Never forget, my friend—you are a miracle.
