Who’s your pilot?

Publication date Jan 9, 2026

This week, I’m sharing lessons I learned simply by getting on an airplane. As I got ready to fly to Houston recently, I boarded the plane, found my seat, and started thinking: I don’t have any idea who is piloting this airplane.

I didn’t see them when I got on, and I didn’t know their ages, their résumés, their credibility, or their training. But there was something that still allowed me to settle in and simply enjoy the flight. The bottom line is, I couldn’t see the pilots, but I trusted them. I trusted their training, their ability, and the fact that they wanted to get home safely, too.

In the same way, we’re following a God that we cannot see. We may not know exactly where He’s leading, but we can trust that He has everything under control, and that He knows the flight plan—and the life plan—for each one of us.

One of my favorite Scriptures is: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

The truth is, I don’t understand anything about flying an airplane, but I trusted the fact that the person behind the controls knew everything there was to know about flying. My friends, faith is not about understanding every turn—it’s about trusting the One who’s steering the journey.

Here’s what’s interesting: halfway through the flight, one of the pilots came out to use the restroom, and I made eye contact with him. He smiled and gave me a knowing nod, and I appreciated knowing in that moment that he was real.

One day, we’re going to see Jesus face-to-face, and in that moment, we’ll understand all of the ins and outs of the journey. We may not understand the journey now, but we can absolutely trust the Guide… or the Pilot!

Never forget, my friend—you are a miracle.
