Thirst No More
Survival mode creates thirst—constant, nagging thirst. A thirst for rest. A thirst for reassurance. A thirst to know we’re going to be okay. So we drink from whatever is closest: productivity, distraction, achievement, control. For a moment, it helps. Then the thirst returns.
Jesus speaks directly into that ache when He promises Living Water. Not a temporary fix, but a lasting source—water that doesn’t just satisfy for a moment, but becomes a spring within us.
At the Child Survival Program in Kenya where I met Evans, hundreds of children lined up for a small plate of beans and rice and a single cup of water. For many, that cup was all they would receive that day. Yet what stunned me most was not their need—it was their generosity. Children who had almost nothing shared freely with others who had even less.
Evans lived in a world where thirst—physical and spiritual—was real. Yet his joy was unmistakable. He carried something deeper than circumstance. He carried hope. His hope came from the declaration of Jesus…
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14, NIV)
Jesus offers water that quenches more than physical thirst. He satisfies the longing to be seen, known, loved, and secure. Survival says, Just make it through today. Jesus says, Come and be filled.
When we drink from Him, we stop chasing relief and start living from renewal. We stop exhausting ourselves at empty wells and begin drawing from a source that never runs dry.
What have you been drinking from lately—and has it truly satisfied? Drinking from a well of stress, despair, and hopelessness will only leave your heart empty. But drinking from the Living Water of Jesus will satisfy your soul and quench your thirst for eternity. Let’s pray together…
Jesus, help me to turn from empty wells and receive Your living water. Let my soul be refreshed by You alone. Teach me, like Evans, to rely on You to quench my spiritual thirst. Amen.
You are a miracle!
