He’s Your Daily Bread
Food is essential to survival. Without it, the body weakens. But Jesus reminds us that the soul also needs nourishment—and not just occasionally. Daily.
Evans came to the feeding program I was at in Kenya hungry. He received rice and beans, but he also received something far more sustaining: the Word of God. His memory verse that day—“Faith, hope, and love”—had clearly been planted and watered long before I ever arrived.
Jesus doesn’t describe Himself as a supplement or an occasional indulgence. He says, I am the bread of life. The source. The foundation.
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’” (John 6:35, NIV)
Survival mode feeds on scraps—whatever we can grab between responsibilities. Transformation happens when we intentionally sit at the table Jesus prepares—when we stop treating Scripture like a side dish and receive it as daily bread.
Evans understood something many of us forget: you don’t live on bread alone. His faith wasn’t theoretical, but practiced through Scripture, community, and trust in God’s provision. He was a living picture of “Man shall not live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” I was so humbled by my new friend’s faith.
The day I met him, he was feasting not only on physical food, but on the true Bread that satisfied his little heart and built faith in him that God would always provide.
Lately, what has been feeding your soul—and what needs to change? Are you spending more time watching your phone for the latest news reel, or are you taking time each day to feast on all that God has for you through His promises and His truth? Let’s pray…
Jesus, be my daily bread. Nourish me with Your Word and sustain me with Your presence. Amen.
You are a miracle!
