True Rest is Jesus’ Invitation…
Survival mode normalizes exhaustion. We wear weariness like a badge of honor. Rest becomes something we postpone until everything else is finished—until the work is done, the crisis resolved, the load lighter. But Jesus offers rest now.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)
Did you hear that? His invitation is simple and personal: Come to Me.
On a hot afternoon in Kenya, two new friends found a moment of rest. After seeing God provide our need for air, water, bread, shelter, and friendship, Evans curled up beside me on the bench and fell asleep.
Psychologists say children only fall into deep rest when they feel safe. Evans wasn’t worried about what he’d eat tomorrow or how far he’d walk later. At that moment, he felt secure. I got to be the hands of Jesus to this little boy who changed my life forever.
Jesus offers that same safety to us. Not rest rooted in escape, but rest rooted in trust. He doesn’t remove all burdens instantly, but He carries them with us. His rest quiets the soul even when circumstances remain loud. Will you take Jesus up on His offer of rest today?
Survival mode teaches us to push through. Jesus teaches us to lean in... and rest.
True rest is not inactivity—it’s dependence.
Are you truly resting in Jesus, or just pausing before pushing again? Hand over your pace, your to-do list, your urgency, and your drive to satisfy your “wants.”
Instead, rest in the fact that the Apostle Paul said, “My God will meet all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19, NIV)
Let’s pray together...
Jesus, I come to You with my weariness. Teach me how to rest in Your care and trust Your strength. Help me to not be driven by temporary “wants,” but instead to believe in Your promise that You will supply all my needs. Amen.
You are a miracle!
