Not From Ourselves
I had a small house project that needed plumbing and electrical. Even though I am not much of a handyman, I thought I could do both jobs myself, and it wasn’t long before I had to acknowledge that I was in way over my head!
There is nothing wrong with trying, but there is also wisdom in calling an expert to get the job done right!
One of the biggest obstacles to salvation is self-sufficiency. Many of us don’t think we need help. We believe our “good” will be good enough.
But Scripture is clear: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, NIV).
That’s exclusive. Not popular—but true.
We can’t save ourselves through good behavior, moral effort, or religious activity. We can’t fix what’s broken inside us. If we could, Jesus wouldn’t have needed to come to save us!
I can speak from personal experience. I’ve tried to fix myself before. I’ve made promises. I’ve set spiritual goals. I’ve created checklists. And I’ve failed, and in that failure came a lesson: Salvation doesn’t start with me, and it doesn’t end with me. It starts and ends with Jesus. He is the expert, and He fixes what is broken, every single time.
That’s humbling—and freeing.
The miracle of today is that Jesus is the only way—and you can find your way home through Him!
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve tried to save myself. I surrender my self-sufficiency. Thank You that my hope rests in You alone. Teach me to depend on You every day. Amen.
You are a miracle!
