Experiencing a True Fresh Start
Earlier this week, I almost finished my sermon for this coming weekend. I had worked long and hard on the content, so I shut my computer, fully intending to come back to it the next day.
When I opened my computer the next morning, my heart fell. A software update had happened during the night, and my “unsaved” document was gone. I had just upgraded to a new computer, and the “auto-save” function had not been turned on… I had to start all over again, and the voice of my computer tech was ringing in my ears, “Jesus saves and so should you!”
I believe the hardest part of starting over is believing it’s possible.
Sometimes my failures echo louder than God’s promises. But Scripture tells a different story:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV)
My fresh start with Jesus isn’t wishful thinking. It’s rooted in what Jesus has already done. I don’t earn renewal. I receive it, and as I take on that new life, God begins to do miraculous things through my active obedience.
A fresh start for me meant that I had to rethink everything I wanted to preach and to ask God for new revelation as I started the message once again. For all of us, a fresh start might mean apologizing. It might mean forgiving. It might mean opening my Bible again after weeks away. It might mean praying honestly instead of pretending.
No matter the step of obedience, God is there. God isn’t asking for dramatic declarations. He’s inviting simple surrender.
He is making everything new—including me.
I love the truth that I don’t have to be defined by past failures. My story isn’t over. My growth isn’t finished. My purpose isn’t exhausted. Today is a gift. Today is a beginning.
And the beautiful truth is this: Jesus is already at work ahead of me.
The miracle of today is that if I’m not dead, God’s not done!
Let’s pray together.
Lord Jesus, thank You that in You I am a new creation. Help me release the weight of past failures. Give me faith to believe that change is possible because You are faithful. Lead me to walk in this fresh start. I receive Your renewal, and I choose to live it today. Amen.
You are a miracle!
