God Is With Us in Obedience
I am writing this in April and, as I am writing, I looked outside and it is snowing! Just minutes ago, it was pouring rain, but now the flakes are flying. Well, apparently Jesus thinks it’s okay to talk about a Christmas theme in the spring!
Joseph’s story ends with a powerful moment of action.
After hearing the angel’s message, Joseph had a choice. He could follow the cultural expectations around him, or he could follow God’s instruction.
Joseph chose obedience.
“When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him.” (Matthew 1:24, NIV)
Sometimes obedience is simple and straightforward. Other times it requires courage.
God may be prompting you to forgive someone. To reach out to someone who feels alone. To trust Him in a new way.To take a step of faith you’ve been avoiding.
Obedience is where we experience God’s presence in a deeper way.
When we say yes to God, we begin walking the path He prepared for us. And the beautiful truth is this: God never calls us to walk that path alone. He walks with us every step of the way.
Just like a loving father who follows closely behind his child during a stormy journey, God stays with His children until they reach home.
Because His name is Immanuel—God with us.
As I typed those words, GOD WITH US, I glanced outside again and the sun is shining! The sun points me toward the presence of the Son, and I am so grateful. I pray that you are too!
Let’s pray together:
God, give me the courage to obey You even when it feels difficult. Help me trust that Your ways are good and that You walk with me every step of the journey. Lead me closer to You each day. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
You are a miracle!
