Chosen, Not Overlooked

Publication date Jun 9, 2026

Do you remember back to a time when you weren’t chosen?

Maybe it was a childhood game when all of your friends were choosing teams, or as an adult, you got passed over for a promotion. Even today, those memories can sting.

One of the most powerful truths I can hold onto is that I have been chosen by Jesus.

My sense of identity often gets shaken when I compare myself to others or when I feel like I’m not as visible or influential as someone else. But comparison distorts truth. Jesus never measures me against others—He calls me personally, because I am His first choice.

There were many people around Jesus during His earthly ministry, yet He intentionally chose His 12 disciples. That included the lesser-known ones whose names are rarely mentioned. But their lack of prominence didn’t disqualify them; it highlighted the intentionality of Jesus’ selection. The Bible says:

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last…” (John 15:16, NIV)

This verse reminds me that my calling is rooted in God’s initiative, not my performance. I didn’t earn my place in His family. I was invited into it. That truth reshapes how I view my purpose.

When I feel overlooked, I remind myself: I am not forgotten—I am chosen. When I feel insignificant, I remind myself: I have been appointed. My life is not random; it is intentional.

Fruitfulness in God’s kingdom doesn’t always look like public platforms or visible success. Sometimes it looks like consistency, faithfulness, prayer, encouragement, and quiet obedience. And those things matter deeply to God.

Today, I choose to live from a place of being chosen rather than striving to be noticed. I want to be like those rarely mentioned faithful disciples, even when not in the spotlight.

Let’s pray together:

Father, thank You for choosing me. Thank You that my identity is secure in You and not dependent on human recognition. Help me walk confidently in the purpose You have given me. Remind me that my life is meaningful because You have called me, not because of what others see. Teach me to bear lasting fruit in every season of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Never forget my friend,

You are a miracle!
