“Why” Questions That Lead Me to God

Publication date Jul 6, 2026

My best friend is great at asking the question, “Why?” Why did you do that? Why did you choose not to do THAT? Why don’t you ask “why” more often?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the word “why.”

Why do we do what we do? Why do we struggle the way we do? Why does God invite us into certain rhythms of life, especially serving and connection? Why is God taking so long to heal my wife? Why do I struggle with anxiety as much as I do?

At first glance, “why” questions can feel frustrating.

But I’ve learned that the right “why” questions can actually lead me closer to the heart of God. When I slow down and ask God “why,” I often discover that He’s not just concerned with my behavior—He’s after my heart.

There are moments in life where I feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or even disconnected from purpose. In those moments, I don’t just need answers. I need alignment. I need to be reminded that my life is not random, and my calling is not accidental. God has a purpose, even in the tension.

Jesus Himself lived with intentionality. He didn’t drift through life but moved with purpose, always aligned with the will of the Father. And in doing so, He showed me that life is not just about understanding everything, but about trusting the One who does.

One of the most famous passages of Scripture says:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6, NIV)

When I ask “why,” I’m learning to move from confusion to trust. I may not always get immediate answers, but I do receive clarity in my relationship with God. He doesn’t always explain everything, but He always reveals more of Himself, and that is God I can trust!

Today, I choose to bring my questions to God instead of letting them create distance. I choose trust over anxiety, surrender over control, and faith over frustration. I pray that you will do the same. Let’s pray together:

Father, I bring my questions to You today. When I don’t understand, help me trust You. When I feel lost, remind me that You are guiding my steps. Teach me to rest in Your wisdom rather than my own. Align my heart with Yours and help me walk in faith even when I don’t have all the answers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Never forget, my friend,

You are a miracle!
