Serving Connects Me to God’s Heart
Just last week, I got to serve at the Food Share and Farm program that our church runs. I got to give away fresh produce, in the name of Jesus, and it was such a joy living out the truth that it IS more blessed to give than to receive!
I’ve come to realize something powerful: serving isn’t just something I do—it’s something that shapes who I become.
Every time I choose to serve, I’m drawn closer to the heart of God.
Serving moves me out of self-focus and into God’s perspective. It shifts my attention from my own needs to the needs of others. And in that shift, something changes inside me. My heart softens. My awareness deepens. My life begins to reflect Jesus more clearly.
Jesus said something that reframes everything for me: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45, NIV)
He didn’t come to be served—He came to serve. That means if I want to follow Him, I have to embrace the same posture.
Serving is an invitation into transformation. When I serve, I begin to see people the way Jesus sees them. I begin to love more freely, listen more deeply, and give more generously.
I’ve seen firsthand how serving changes perspective. A moment of obedience can turn into a moment of joy. What once felt like a task becomes an encounter with God’s presence, and we can experience that every time we engage with God!
Serving also reminds me that life is not just about accumulation—it’s about contribution. It’s not just about what I receive, but what I give. And in giving, I find purpose.
Where can you serve today? You won’t regret it if you do!!
Today, I want to live with open hands and a willing heart. I want to serve not out of obligation, but out of love… Just like Jesus! Let’s pray together:
Jesus, thank You for showing me what true service looks like. Help me to follow Your example with humility and joy. Give me eyes to see people the way You see them, and a heart that is willing to serve without hesitation. Shape me through every opportunity to serve so that I reflect Your love more clearly. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Never forget, my friend,
You are a miracle!
