Greatness in the Kingdom Looks Different
Once, on a past trip to Israel, I was in the Upper Room, where Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. There, I got to wash the feet of my beloved wife, Laurel. There was something so pure, connecting, and joyful about that simple act. Anytime we mimic Jesus, something amazing happens!
The world defines greatness by status, power, and recognition. But Jesus redefines greatness in a completely different way.
In His Kingdom, greatness is measured by humility, service, and surrender.
This challenges me deeply, because I naturally want to be seen, recognized, and elevated. But Jesus calls me to something countercultural. He calls me downward before He lifts me up.
Greatness in God’s Kingdom is not about climbing a ladder—it’s about kneeling in service and being faithful where I am and where God has placed me. Jesus said:
“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” (Matthew 20:26–28, NIV)
This truth reshapes how we can approach our calling, responsibilities, and relationships. Instead of asking, “How can I get ahead?” we can begin asking, “How can I serve well right here?”
Jesus didn’t just teach this—He lived it! His entire life was marked by humility and sacrifice. And if I want to follow Him, I have to adopt that same posture. friend, you can do this too, through simply serving where God gives opportunity.
Serving becomes the pathway to true greatness—not in the eyes of the world, but in the Kingdom of God, and that’s the only Kingdom that matters!
Together, let’s choose humility over pride, service over status, and obedience over recognition. In doing that, we are acting JUST LIKE JESUS! Let’s pray together:
Father, teach me what true greatness looks like in Your Kingdom. Remove pride from my heart and replace it with humility. Help me to serve others with sincerity and joy, without seeking recognition. Align my desires with Yours so that my life reflects Your heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Never forget, my friend,
You are a miracle!
