Serving Brings Joy and Meaning

Publication date Jul 11, 2026

There is a deep joy that comes from serving others. It’s not always immediate or obvious, but it’s real and lasting.

I have a friend named Gabe. He is the Technology Director at our church. He is a true servant. He is always making sure everyone else is OK. He regularly puts “chocolate and peanut butter” treats on my desk because he knows I love them! When there is a need, Gabe is always there with a smile and a helping hand. His service inspires me to serve even more!

When I serve, I step into something bigger than myself. I become part of God’s work in the lives of others. And in that, I find meaning that goes beyond temporary satisfaction.

Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. That truth has proven itself in my life again and again! Let me say that again:“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35, NIV)

Giving of myself—my time, my energy, my attention—creates space for God to work through me. And in that process, joy follows.

Serving has a way of lifting burdens off my own heart. It shifts my focus, renews my spirit, and reminds me that my life has purpose beyond myself.

Today, I choose joy through service. Let’s make that our commitment together! Let’s pray:

Lord, thank You for the joy that comes from giving and serving. Help me to find meaning not in what I receive, but in what I give. Fill my heart with Your joy as I serve others today. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

 Never forget, my friend,

You are a miracle!
