Staying Centered

Once again, we are going to accept the invitation of God to go to the Potter’s House and learn from what we see and experience. So, get that picture in your mind: clay, a spinning wheel, shaping hands, water, and fire.

One of the most important parts of pottery is centering the clay.

If the clay isn’t centered on the wheel, it wobbles. It collapses. It flies apart under pressure.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve lived that reality.

When my life isn’t centered on God, everything feels unstable. My emotions swing. My priorities drift. My faith wobbles. My peace disappears.

But when I allow God to center me—when I align my life with His truth—there is stability.

There is peace. There is clarity. 

The Bible says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3, NKJV) https://www.bible.com/bible/114/ISA.26.3.NKJV 

It also says:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6, NIV)

Centering isn’t something I achieve on my own. It’s something God does as I submit to Him.

Centering means that I choose:His truth over my opinions.His ways over my preferences.His voice over every other voice.

When I make that choice, I’ve seen the difference. When I’m centered, I’m calmer. More patient. Even joyful in the process.

When I’m not, my life feels chaotic and like something spinning out of control.

Today, I want to stay in His hands—and stay centered, because that’s where life holds together.

Where do you want to place yourself on the wheel today? Let’s pray together:

“Lord, center my life on You. Align my heart with Your truth and steady me when I feel off balance. Help me trust You above my own understanding. Keep me grounded in Your presence today. In the name of Jesus. Amen.”
