Giving Myself Away

As a pastor, I am occasionally blessed with a gift from a little one at the church that I call home. Standing in our common area, as families are leaving, sometimes a child will present me with their coloring page from the kids’ ministry. I have a collection of pictures of Jesus healing the blind man, the creation of the world, and David going out to face Goliath. 

They are all brilliantly colored and beautiful in their own way, but most importantly, I know that the child shared a little piece of themself with me as I received their masterpiece. What an honor!!!

As I reflect on this journey, I come back to where it all started: giving myself fully to the One who knows me, loves me, and calls me His own. Choosing Him means I am saying no to the wrong things. No to the temporary distractions. But instead, saying yes to the One who gave everything for me.

This is the life I want to live—a life fully surrendered, fully devoted, fully alive in Christ. 

I want to live out and follow the direction of the Apostle Paul:

“Therefore, I urge you … to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” (Romans 12:1, NIV)

Giving myself to Jesus is never losing—it’s gaining. It’s stepping into freedom. It’s becoming who I was created to be.

So today, I make that choice again. Make the same choice! Let’s pray together:

Dear Father, I give myself to You completely. Take every part of my life and use it for Your purposes. Help me to live a life that reflects You in everything I do. I pray this in the power of Jesus’ name. Amen.
