Let People Talk

Publication date Sep 19, 2026

"People think that..."

You've heard phrases like that before. Maybe you've even said them yourself after someone criticized you.

Not long ago, I received another email (and yes, I say another because this happens quite often) that said: "Your smile looks fake. There's no way it's genuine that you're always smiling at the camera."

Ironically, that very morning, I had written a devotion for A Miracle Every Day on this verse:

"Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."  (Nehemiah 8:10

You know, that same morning I shared my thoughts about that email on Instagram. I did so with love, but by sharing it, I also gave it space.

Right away, I received many well-meaning messages: "Déborah, my friends say the same thing about you all the time. They don't think it's possible for someone to smile that much. But honestly, that's exactly what I love about you..."

Everyone shared their opinion with me. Suddenly, that one email took up so much space in my mind that I spent half the day thinking about it, instead of continuing to work on what really mattered.

Do you see how quickly other people's opinions become important to us, when only one opinion truly matters?

That morning, God had already reminded me:

"Do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength."  (Nehemiah 8:10)

And today, I want to pass those same words on to you!

It doesn't matter what other people think about you. What matters is that you continue seeking God's will and His opinion because God wants to tell you what He thinks about you.

And then you'll quickly realize that other people's opinions no longer have a place in your life.

Only one opinion matters—His! Everything else is a waste of time. 😉

And one thing is certain: YOU ARE VALUED.

You are a miracle!
