Recognizing My Brokenness
A few months ago, we did a series about accepting God’s invitation to go to the Potter’s House for a time of reshaping. We are going to go there again, because there is so much more to learn, and I want to introduce you to a new friend in the coming days!
Today, I am reminded that healing begins with honesty. For much of my life, I have been tempted to present myself as put-together, capable, and strong.
But deep down, I know that I am broken in ways that I cannot fix on my own. I see the ways I have made choices that didn’t lead to life. I see patterns, habits, and even wounds that linger longer than I would like to admit.
God speaks clearly through Jeremiah about His role as the Potter and my role as the clay. I am not in control of my own reshaping. I don’t get to define what wholeness looks like apart from Him. I am invited instead to surrender.
“This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: ‘Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.’ So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.” (Jeremiah 18:1-4, NIV)
This passage reminds me that my brokenness is not the end of the story.
The clay was not discarded—it was reshaped. God does not walk away when He encounters my flaws. Instead, He leans in with purpose and intention.
Today, I am learning that admitting I am broken is not weakness—it is the doorway to healing. As long as I pretend, I remain unchanged. But when I come honestly before God, I place myself in the hands of the One who restores.
Let’s pray together:
Lord, help me to stop hiding my brokenness and instead bring it fully into Your presence. Teach me to trust You as the Potter of my life. Shape me according to Your will, not my own desires. Give me the courage to be honest about who I am so that You can make me who I am meant to be. Amen.
Never forget, my friend—
You are a miracle!
