Moving From Ashes to Action

Publication date Oct 12, 2026

I have a close friend who, years ago, was burned in an accident. I often see him looking at his scar and flexing those burnt fingers. He had burnt his hand releasing a trailer full of fuel that would have exploded and possibly injured many people if it hadn’t been for his bravery.

In his words, “I have to keep the scar moving, so it doesn’t freeze me in the pain.”

Healing is not only about reflection—it is also about movement. There comes a moment when I must get up from the place where I’ve been sitting in sorrow and begin to step forward in faith. Staying in the ashes too long can feel safe, but it is not where God intends me to live.

David’s story of godly sorrow and the loss it created shows a clear transition. After grieving, he got up, washed himself, changed his clothes, and worshiped. That sequence speaks volumes. Healing is not complete until it produces movement toward God and the new beginning He offers!

I’ve noticed in my own life that prolonged dwelling in guilt often disguises itself as humility. But in reality, it can be resistance to receiving grace. God calls me not only to acknowledge and grieve, but also to rise. Listen to this description:

“Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped.” (2 Samuel 12:20, NIV)

This verse shows me that worship is the destination of healing. When I move forward, I am not ignoring the past—I am responding to God’s grace, and that causes my heart to sing and praise.

Are you stuck in some old pain that has held you for far too long? Today is the day to rise. You don’t need to remain stuck in regret. You can step into worship and live in the freedom God provides. Let’s do that together!

Father, help me to rise from places where I have been stuck. Give me the strength to move forward in faith and not remain in regret. Lead me into worship as a response to Your healing work in my life. Thank You for calling me forward into freedom. Amen.

Never forget my friend—

You are a miracle!
