Are You Making a Big Deal Out of It?
Why are we so good at turning a small thing into a big thing, but not so good at turning a big thing into a small thing?
I asked myself this question on my day off. I had finally gotten back into the rhythm of actually keeping my day of rest when, early that morning, I got a message: “Déborah, we have an emergency. You need to step in.”
I don’t know what comes over us in moments like that, but my initial reaction was definitely not very gracious. It was something along the lines of: God, I wanted to do this for You, and once again the enemy comes along and ruins everything.
Before I knew it, I was grumpily thinking about how my beautifully planned, relaxing day had just been ruined. But why?
It was ONE thing. ONE thing that would take me maybe 1–2 hours, not the whole day. But because I had to have a little pity party, I turned it into 2–3 hours! 😜
And that’s why I have this question for you today:
Why are we so good at turning a small thing into a big thing, but not so good at turning a big thing into a small thing?
From God’s perspective, this really was just a tiny thing. Maybe God wasn’t trying to take my day of rest away from me at all. Maybe He wanted to show me that true peace doesn’t depend on everything going according to MY plan.
How often do we let one little change of plans ruin our entire day? When, in reality, the whole day didn’t change, just one small part of it.
The Bible says: “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah 26:3, NLT)
Maybe this is something you’re being invited to learn again right now:
Not holding on to YOUR plan, but trusting God—even when His plan looks different.
Because true peace doesn’t depend on everything going according to your plan. 😉
His plan is always better than yours!
You are a miracle!
