You Don’t Have to Pray for a LONG Time ... 😉
Who doesn’t know the feeling? You want to pray, but after three or four sentences, you’ve already run out of things to say.
Maybe because there’s so much to do that day, or because you’re not fully awake yet, but you somehow can’t think of anything else to pray about.
It was exactly that kind of morning for me. After a quick little prayer, I just wanted to sit down and get to work.
I opened my Bible—for work purposes, mind you—and my eyes fell on Colossians 4:2. The verse says: “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.” (Colossians 4:2, NLT),
Awakened by what I had just read, I decided to dig a little deeper into the original text. Prayer is not described as a single moment. It is described as something you continually devote yourself to.
This doesn’t mean: “Have long, uninterrupted conversations with God all day long,” or “Keep repeating the same words without stopping.”
It simply means: Remain devoted to prayer. Stay with it, hold on to it, and don’t give up on it.
That changes the verse quite a bit.
If you find focusing for even two sentences difficult, remember that Colossians 4:2 doesn’t tell us we need to learn how to pray with concentration for twenty minutes.
Instead, it tells us: Don’t stop turning to God. ❤️
➡️ You can pray two sentences in the morning.➡️ Later, in the car, pray: “Jesus, please help me.”➡️ While you’re working, if someone comes to mind, pray: “Lord, bless him—or her.”➡️ If you receive good news, pray: “Thank You, Father!”➡️ If you feel anxious, pray: “I’m giving this to You now.”➡️ If you need wisdom, pray: “Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts.”➡️ And in the evening, pray: “Thank You for being with me today.”
These are not unimportant little prayers. This is prayer too.
You don’t have to pray for a long time; just don’t stop talking to God!
You are a miracle!
