Pregnant with a promise 🤰
The story of Mary and her surprise pregnancy still amazes me. Can you imagine how she felt? An engaged teenager raised in a strict culture that forbade premarital sex in any context? Saying yes to the Spirit must have seemed like a good idea at the time, but the results were surely overwhelming.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed?
I can tell you, I’ve said yes to God so many times, and each yes brings results and challenges that are unique to each situation. When you say yes to God, He makes you pregnant with a new destiny. During Advent, your obedience will start a chain reaction in the spiritual and earthly realms. Your obedience will open the door to all the wealth and blessings of heaven.
Jesus prayed to the Father, “‘your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.’” (Matthew 6:10, NIV) The Kingdom of Heaven will start rushing through you when you obey.
I’ll never forget the day God told me to give it all. I didn’t see an angel, have a dream, or hear a voice. I had a thought. I struggled with the thought because my wife and I were saving up to repair our backyard. Our adopted dog, “Sandy the Destroyer,” had eaten our entire irrigation system and our plants.
Can you imagine the horror of those haunting thoughts? “Give it all away” stuck in my mind for a week. Eventually, I leaned over to my wife in church and told her of my impression. She shocked me with her immediate response “Yes!”
Obedience like Mary’s can change your world and the world around you. The Bible says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7, NIV) If you say yes to God, He will say yes to you.
I know that you must be dying to know what happened. Well, we gave it all. We gave all of our money, we gave the dog to a farmer who adored it, and God gave us a beautiful backyard from a generous contractor in our church.
friend, say yes to God, and He’ll say yes to you because you’re a miracle.
