The promise of the rainbow.
A few months ago, my wife and I had the opportunity to get away for a few days to rest. We awoke one morning and headed out to an outdoor breakfast spot. The view of the water and the trees was spectacular, and we were amazed at the grandeur and beauty of God’s creation. To make it even better, painted in the sky was a brilliant rainbow! In a perfect arch, God lit up the sky with vibrant color and beauty. It was breathtaking! People were stopping to grab pictures before the moment disappeared. I did my best to capture the magnificent rainbow, but my camera could never do it justice!

friend, do you remember the promise that God made with a rainbow? After removing evil from the earth through a global flood, God made a promise. Genesis 9 says:
“And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” (Genesis 9:12-16, NIV)
This is such a beautiful promise of protection, restoration, and hope! And, God has been keeping His promise for hundreds upon hundreds of years.
I love the promise, but I also love the lesson that comes with it. You can’t have a rainbow without rain. friend, the storms and challenges of today remind us that with Jesus, there is always the promise of beauty arriving when the rain subsides…and the rain WILL subside. You will get through this storm, and when you do, God will paint His love and His promise in a way that you cannot miss!
Let’s take a moment and pray: Jesus, you remind us constantly of your love for us! Help us today to see you in light of your promises and unchanging word. We know, because of your promise, that whatever rain we are enduring, it will bring blessings in the future. Amen.
You are a miracle!
Your friend,
