Throw It Down!
Hello, my friend! I am so glad that you are a part of the miraculous family of faith through A Miracle Every Day!
I asked a good friend the other day about what was weighing him down. He mentioned his concerns for his children, health worries, and a wildfire in proximity to his home. All of which had created knots in his stomach and anxious thoughts running constantly through his mind.
I asked him as gently as I could, “Is there anything you can do right now for your children? Can you fix your health concerns by fixating on them? Can you put out the fire by yourself?” He answered quietly “No”. I continued, “Then, this seems like a perfect opportunity to do what God invited you to do with your worries, and throw them down!”
1 Peter 5 says:
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7, NIV)
friend, let’s walk through this together as we choose to overcome worry with the miracle of faith and God’s presence.
First of all, we have to admit that we are often powerless to change what is happening in our bodies, family and world. Humility says, "I can't but God can!". Take a few moments, right now, and tell God all of the aspects of your life that you feel you are incapable of changing. As you do, be thankful that you serve a miraculous God who knows what it means to have wayward children, who can heal ANY disease and can extinguish any fire.
friend, as God invited you to do, throw your anxieties, cares and concerns at the foot of the cross. Lay down everything troubling you and ask God to take over your mind and heart as you choose to trust Him. Ask God to lift the burden of worry and replace it with a growing trust as you move forward. Moving forward is key as we refuse to remain stuck in the useless act of worry.
When my friend and I finished praying together, he asked a great question, "Why do I feel tempted already to run back and pick up everything I just laid down?" That was a great question!! As we learn to overcome worry, we have to ask whether our concerns are better in our hands, or God's. friend, I think we both know the answer to that question!
We are making miraculous progress in overcoming worry. Take a moment, and thank God again that He cares for you, He knows everything that you need and that He is more than able to calm your greatest worry. This alone is a miracle!
You are a Miracle!
