What convinced you to believe?
What convinced you to believe in a personal God? Was it a good friend’s testimony, a sermon, a book, or nature?
The Bible says the first and greatest proof of God is creation: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20, NIV) There are a few important truths we should highlight in order to understand the power of God’s creation. The creation of the world demonstrates the following:
- God’s invisible attributes were evident. In other words, the visible testified of the invisible.
- His eternal power was also displayed. friend, did you know that there are 100 billion galaxies and that within each galaxy, there are 100 billion stars? What’s 100 billion times 100 billion? I don’t know how to describe it. Perhaps an adequate way to describe it is 100 billion deserts times 100 billion grains of sand. That’s a lot of zeros and a lot of power.
- His Divine nature is undeniable. I’m a huge outdoors kind of guy—I love to fish, kayak, ski, and hike. I’m often amazed by the beauty, variety, and magnitude of nature. In some small way, it speaks of God. He’s amazing, beautiful, magnificent, and all-powerful.
Paul says that we discover God by what He has made. That’s insane but true. friend, have you ever seen a sunset, a waterfall, or the stars at night and been filled with wonder? The creation is not greater than the Creator. So if nature is this incredible, what is God like?
I pray this analogy encourages you to believe in a big God. He loves you and thinks you are a work of art. You’re part of His magnificent creation, and you are a miracle.
