What fills your heart?
Have you ever met someone who was inundated with fear, anger, resentment, or lust? I have, and it’s kind of scary. It seems to ooze out of that person’s pores, body, language, and tone of voice. Jesus said, “‘For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.’” (Matthew 12:34, NKJV)
So today’s caution is to “be careful what fills your heart.” This is really an undeniable truth. The chemist talks about chemistry. The botanist discusses plants, and the athlete speaks about sports. Our interests, passions, and hobbies fill large quadrants of our inner souls.
The Bible also warns us that “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.” (Galatians 5:9, NKJV) Leaven in this context is not good. It can refer to sin, bitterness, hatred, or even distorted ideologies. I’ve discovered that just one wrong seed in my mind or heart can get me off track.
The Apostle Paul writes, “‘Be angry, and do not sin’: do not let the sun go down on your wrath.” (Ephesians 4:26, NKJV) The devil can get a foothold in our minds and hearts through one open door. Eventually, he tries to take over the whole person.
But, friend, there is good news in this email! Jesus is full of grace: “And of His fullness, we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:16-17, NKJV) If you fill your life with more of Jesus, you will receive more grace. You will ooze grace. Can you imagine what that will look like? Grace looks like something, and that something will help everyone who is open to receive.
Are you open to more grace and sharing it with others? Then fill your heart with more Jesus and watch the grace invasion transform your life because you are a miracle. And I love you more than piñatas.
