What It’s Really About…
Admit it. Some situations just annoy you.
It can be everyday things, like the household. You try to keep everything in order, but then your children come home, mess everything up and say something like: "This place used to look better.”
And you're standing there thinking, "Really? Can't you see how I'm tearing myself apart for you?"
But it can also be in a completely different area of your life. It might even be your health. You've always fed yourself well, yet this unexpected diagnosis has turned your whole life upside down.
The same thing happened to Peter, who was so convinced of Jesus’ position that he drew his sword in the Garden of Gethsemane and cut off the right ear of one of the high priest's servants (see John 18:10 NIV), but shortly thereafter was not so sure about his relationship with Jesus. “Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, ‘You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?’ He denied it, saying, ‘I am not.’” (John 18:25 NIV)
It had been easier for him to draw his sword and go into the obvious battle than to understand the truth behind the scenes. If Peter had really understood what this was all about, he would have understood that shortly thereafter Jesus would hang on that cross for his sins! ...and Jesus knew why He was doing it:
Jesus had to die so that you could live—and forgive—friend!
Do you know how Jesus responded to Peter’s attack? "Jesus commanded Peter, ‘Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?’” (John 18:11 NIV)
Today we too should just put away the negative thoughts, even the bad words we feel like saying, and try to keep on loving, even if others don't deserve it.
Because... Jesus will (also) always keep on loving us, even if we don't deserve it!
In that truth, may your heart find rest today.
You are a miracle!
