Where are you looking, friend?

“I look up to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD. He is the Maker of heaven and earth.(Psalm 121:1-2 NiRV

I wish I could show you this verse in my Bible, because it's highlighted in bold, and underneath I wrote, "USA Flight 2017." I remember it like it was just yesterday.

We were on our approach to land. I was traveling alone, at least that's what I thought. But looking back, I know that Jesus was with me! That is why I write WE today. But at that moment, my failures, my bad decisions and all the thoughts about them, stood in the way of this truth.

My own thoughts were telling me, "You made the decisions to enter into this relationship that turned out so badly. It is only your fault that you are traveling alone today to finish a project that you started together. Now you're going to have to take the blame for that all by yourself."

Tears dripped onto my Bible during the landing approach. My devastating thoughts were real, but I knew that God's Word was just as real. (See Hebrews 4:12 NIV)

I turned to any page in the Bible for comfort when my eyes fell on this verse. I then boldly marked, "I look up..."  “I look up to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD. He is the Maker of heaven and earth.(Psalm 121:1-2 NiRV)

friend, in moments of our failure, we do not look up unless we choose to. Rather, our natural reaction is to look down. Down on ourselves. Down on our failures. We want to cower, hide, or even disappear. These are terrible thoughts that can destroy you.

friend, maybe that's how you're feeling today. Believe me, you are not alone with such thoughts. But do not look down any longer! You are loved! Even with your failures. Look up today, ask Jesus for forgiveness and help.

Do you know what I always do when I don't have the words to pray? I just pray a psalm. Will you do that with me today, friend?

“My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.” (Psalm 25:15-18 NIV

When you fix your eyes on Him, you will know where to find life again!

You are a miracle!
