Who do YOU say He is?

“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked His disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But what about you?’ He asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’” (Matthew 16:13-15 NIV)
From this short, well-known passage, I could draw so much out, but today, let’s focus on just one point, friend. Like I said, it’s about asking questions. ❔❔ The right questions. And my first question would be:
Were the disciples really so “off” (I’m trying not to use the word that’s actually on the tip of my tongue 😅) that they STILL couldn’t believe Jesus was the Son of God? Did Jesus really have to ask them again? 😲
friend, by this point, Jesus had been with them for two or three years! You’d think that by then, at least one of the disciples would have had the time to sit down with Jesus over tea and say, “I’ve never seen anyone on this earth do as many miracles as you. You must be the Son of God!”
Ah, wait a minute… didn’t something like this happen just before? In Matthew 14, there had been a storm, and that didn’t stop Jesus from walking on the water. Peter tried to walk toward Him, but failed because he doubted… Jesus said, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31-32 NIV)
When the storm calmed thanks to Jesus, they exclaimed, “Truly, you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:33 NIV) And Jesus must have smiled and thought, “Oh, NOW you believe… In a few days, you’ll forget this again.” 🙄 Which, of course, He was right about. That’s why He asked this question again in Matthew 16:
“But what about you? Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:13-15 NIV)
See, friend, when we take the time to really read short passages carefully, we can take so much from them. Today, for example, the question is:
💭 “Who do I say Jesus is? Do I REALLY believe Jesus is the Son of God and that through Him, my eternity is secure? Or am I like the disciples, who needed Jesus to keep asking them?”
You are a miracle!
