Who is my judge?

Publication date Oct 19, 2021

We are all trying to live through this COVID-19 season. It’s not easy, but we will conquer our trials with patience and confidence. Lots of patience, right? Oh God, please help us be patient.

The Bible says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9, NIV) I’m holding on to that promise almost every day. I’m claiming it and drawing strength from it. What’s keeping you strong?

Another thing that helps me keep a good perspective is the fact that one day, God will judge me. I don’t live my life to please people or gain followers. In fact, I’m only living and dying with the sole objective of pleasing my King. The Bible says, “And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear.” (1 Peter 1:17, NKJV) Yikes! We will all be judged by God according to or kata our works. We won’t be judged by our good looks or intentions, our dreams or hopes, our parents’ faith, or even our own. When it comes to that big judgment day, God will be looking at one thing: our works. Someone once said, “Talk is cheap, so show me the money.”

Please don’t get me wrong—works won’t save you. Faith and a personal relationship with Jesus will. However, the Bible also says, “If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” (1 Corinthians 3:12-15, NIV)

friend, this is heavy stuff. We will all face judgment. Some won’t make it to heaven. Some will make it simply by faith in Christ but will have no other reward. It’s a sobering thought that makes me evaluate my thoughts and actions. I know I want to store up my treasures in heaven.

And I’m sure you do, too, because you are a miracle. And I love you more than a good movie.
