10 Bible Verses to Help You Through Depression

Depression can feel like a heavy, dark blanket covering everything. Maybe you’ve been struggling with overwhelming thoughts, anxiety, or feelings of hopelessness. Maybe you’re searching for God, but He feels far away.

Know this: you are not alone.

The Bible speaks honestly about suffering, sorrow, and healing. Many biblical figures, like David, Job, and even Jesus, experienced deep moments of pain.

You might not understand everything you’re feeling, but sometimes one sentence is enough to bring God’s comfort and peace in the middle of your depression. Here are 10 Bible verses that can bring comfort during a difficult time.

Psalms 34:18

Matthew 11:28

Isaiah 41:10

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Psalms 42:11

Romans 8:38-39

Philippians 4:6-7

Psalms 23:4

1 Peter 5:7

John 16:33

The Bible is a foundation of hope

Choose a Bible verse that speaks to you. Keep repeating it and carry it with you in different ways. Here are a few examples:

Examples:

In addition, writing down your feelings can also bring relief. Take a blank sheet of paper and write down your worries. Then pray: “Lord, I lay these worries before You.” Tear up the paper afterward as a symbol of surrender.

If Jesus has overcome the world, then your situation is not hopeless. There is a greater story unfolding, and you have not been forgotten.

Hope in depression

Depression isn’t something you “fix” with a few inspiring words. If you feel stuck, seek professional help. But also believe that God won’t abandon you in this battle. Each day, you can take a small step: breathing, praying, and reading one verse. God walks patiently with you, even when you don’t feel Him.

Maybe you can memorize one of these verses. Or pick one that speaks to you today. You don’t have to go through this alone. You are precious in God’s eyes. He sees you. He loves you.

You can also reach out and ask for a prayer! Our team would love to pray with you and over you during this time.
