Let your light shine today
We have all experienced this situation…We walk into a room, perhaps at a family reunion, in a great mood. But the mood in the room doesn’t match yours.
They talk about the uncle who is in the hospital, the brother who just got fired or maybe even much simpler: They—and you—are disappointed because you didn't get the last piece of cake or are annoyed that the kids are making so much noise.
In a flash, the negative mood in the room has transferred to you, and your joy has disappeared faster than you could hold on to it.
What does God say about such situations?
Yes, friend, the Bible even addresses such "family situations." Right here, right now, you can choose to be dragged down or stand up and make a difference!
In Galatians, Paul reminds us that we, as children of God, can't just do whatever we want:
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” (Galatians 5:13 NIV)
And what does it mean to "serve?” Quite simply, it means to help others, to support them.
friend, you can serve, that is, help people, by living what His Word says about you: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16 NIV)
Yes, you serve and help by bringing joy and truth to such situations. Or simply mustering the courage to say, "I don't have the answer to that, but I'll pray about it!"
This is exactly what God desires, as we read in the Bible, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV)
I'm quite excited to see what kind of situation you will find yourself in today where His light will shine through you. And I hope you will allow yourself to be used by Him. Be courageous and shine your light.
People need light, and Jesus gives it to them through you!
You are a miracle!
