Get Up
Are you feeling a bit down because you don't have the right people around you, friend?
Recently, I was talking with my mother after several weekends of being on tour together. This means we drive many miles separately, I jump on stage at the event, and she takes care of my books/CDs and the visitors there.
We crash into our hotel bed at night, and the next day, it's back on the road. There's hardly any time to talk. And eventually, we head back home. Separately. And at home, where I don't meet anyone right away, that's when I can quickly fall into a deep hole.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen to me, friend, but I've learned how to quickly get out of it:
- I pray and sometimes just cry before God. Because He understands. And our tears are safe with Him. If David did it that way, then we should definitely do it too. He said, "In my distress I called to you, Lord; I cried to you for help... You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy." (from Psalm 30:9-12 NIV) In summary: God sees your tears, and He wants to give you joy instead! Just don't forget to pray to Him in your distress.
- I read what His Word says. I know, I’ve heard it a thousand times. But have I done it a thousand times too?
friend, every time I'm in a hole and don't open the Bible, I stay in my hole for a while. But every time I open His Word, I'm amazed at how liberating it is, pulling me out of that hole.
Because you know what's written there and what God wants to tell you today, friend? "Hold firmly to the message of life…" (Philippians 2:16 NIV)
Yes, there's a message that lifts us out of these holes. It's there! It's real! And hopefully, it's before your eyes today... because what your eyes read will determine where your thoughts go today...
Read your Bible, friend. It's worth it. For you, personally.
You are a miracle!
