Have you ever fallen asleep in church?🤭

Almost every church has that one person who dozes off during the service. Know someone like that?
And if you’re feeling a little called out right now… THANK YOU for showing up—even when you're tired. It reminds me of a man who was once asked why he had fallen asleep during church. He replied, “I’m a firefighter. I saved lives last night.” Silence. Goosebumps. Enough said.
Now I have to tell you the story of a young man who fell asleep—while Paul was preaching! Oh man… if only he had known how famous Paul would become, he probably would’ve taken notes on every word, haha.
But honestly, who hasn’t been there? It was a very, very long sermon. Oh yes, Paul could talk. It says: “...since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight.” (Acts 20:7 NLT)
Smart as he was, the young man named Eutychus sat by the window to get some fresh air. The problem? He fell asleep: “Finally, he fell asleep and dropped three stories to his death below.” (Acts 20:9 NLT)
Can you imagine that?! 😲He died on the spot… how tragic! But what did Paul do? “Paul went down, bent over him, and took him into his arms. ‘Don’t worry, he’s alive!’ Then they all went back upstairs, shared in the Lord’s Supper, and ate together.” (Acts 20:10-11 NLT)
There’s so much we could say about this wild story, but one thing really jumps out to me: The young man falls asleep. He falls out of the window. He dies. Paul rushes down. He hugs him. The boy lives again. ❤️
No, “What were you thinking?! You could’ve died!” (Well… he did.)
No, “Couldn’t you stay awake like everyone else? So disrespectful.”
No blame. No lecture. Just a hug. Just love. I’m pretty sure that boy never fell asleep in church again. 😉
Because love helps people move forward. Blame holds them back.
So let’s respond like Paul did, because people fall asleep—even in their faith. What matters is who’s there to catch them.
You are a miracle!
