You Have a Family!

I don’t know your personal situation, but through your many heartfelt messages, I’ve realized that our “Miracle Family” includes a wide variety of family circumstances.Parents who have passed away long ago, or “they didn’t want me”—or the opposite: “My children have broken off contact with me.”

Oh, I can only imagine how painful that must be, and I truly and sincerely feel for you if you’ve experienced something like that. BUT—here comes a beautiful but 🥰:

If you open your heart, a new possibility for connection and family will be revealed to you!

My beloved sponsor child was put out by her family when she became pregnant at 17, because there is a lot of shame around that in the culture. When my father and I visited her last year, she ran into my father’s arms: “Papa!” 

And you know what? Almost 10 years ago, I myself fell into her mother’s arms when I was in Africa with a heavy heart, and she offered me motherly comfort. And yes, ever since, I’ve called her “Mama.”

Even when someone makes mistakes, never forget how much they get right!

And you know what happened last year? Elodie’s parents fell into MY arms and cried: “Your love and the way you came to us has brought healing to our family!”

If I had said, “You’re wrong, I don’t like you,” this would never have happened! For me, they are family—with everything that comes with it: mistakes, experiences, disappointment, and forgiveness.

And so, even if “family” is missing for you: If you open your heart, a new possibility for connection and family will be revealed to you!

Who around you could become “true family” for you, just like my African family has become for me? Reach out and allow this kind of family to grow! ❤️

You are also part of God’s family. As it says in the Bible, “You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.” (Ephesians 2:19, NIV)  

Remember that. You are not alone. And no one should be.
