Seeing Myself and Others Through Grace
I was counseling a young man who was struggling to own his own sin. He kept rationalizing and justifying his actions with this statement, “Well, at least I am not an axe murderer!”
I was glad that was true… But once again, I saw the pain that happens when we get caught up in comparison and minimize our own sin.
Because the truth is that every sin that I have ever committed cost Jesus His life.
It is easy for me to judge others when I feel secure in my own standing. Like the Pharisee in Luke 7, I can fall into the trap of comparing, categorizing, and distancing myself from “those people.”
Listen to his words: “When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, ‘If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.’” (Luke 7:39, NIV)
Can you hear the contempt and judgment dripping from his heart? God forbid we ever judge in that way.
Grace changes how I see both myself and others.
When I recognize my own brokenness, I become more compassionate toward the brokenness in others.
Jesus did not reject the woman labeled as a sinner—He welcomed her. His response challenges me to extend the same kind of grace.
Healing in my own life leads to humility in how I treat others. I am no longer superior, but I am simply someone who has been rescued.
The Bible says: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23, NIV)
This truth levels the ground. None of us stands above another. We are all recipients of grace and, praise Jesus, He offers it… Freely!!!
Who do you need to release from your judgment today?
Let’s pray together:
God, help me to see others the way You see them. Remove judgment and replace it with compassion. Teach me to extend grace freely, remembering how much grace I have received. Shape my heart to reflect Yours. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Never forget, my friend—
You are a miracle!
