Only THIS really matters
“There is only one thing worth being concerned about…” (Luke 10:42 NLT). If I said these exact words to you today, would you believe me, friend? 🤔 “Only ONE thing worth being concerned about.”
First, you'd probably want to know what exactly I mean by that. And before I reveal it to you, let me add a little extra weight to that one sentence. Because it's not me saying it. JESUS said it. Jesus, friend!
Imagine you’re in the middle of setting up new tech equipment at your church, fixing the broken dishwasher, and cleaning everything because there’s a special Sunday service with guests coming.
And out of nowhere, Jesus walks in. He just sits down on one of the broken chairs, and you think: “Oh shoot, I meant to fix that one too.” You jump up and go grab your tools. “Wait, Jesus must be thirsty, right? What would He prefer? Orange juice, water, coffee?” ☕️“Oh no, I don’t even have any cake! He could’ve at least let me know He was coming…” 🍰
All these thoughts are racing through your head. And suddenly, the worst thought of all hits: “Is Jesus here to tell me I’m a bad person? Would He even want to talk to me? He knows I was just gossiping about our pastor while cleaning…” 🙊
We humans are used to judging others. Jesus is used to spreading love. ❤️
“Having loved his own who were in the world, he [Jesus] loved them to the end.” (John 13:1)
And that’s exactly why Jesus says to you today, friend, just like he said to Martha. While you’re doing all the things, Jesus reminds you: “There is only one thing worth being concerned about…” (Luke 10:42 NLT).
It’s like he’s saying, “I don’t need the perfect chair. I don’t even need a perfect person, friend. What I want is your heart, for you to understand how and who I am.”
An “I don’t have time” quickly turns into, “You’re missing MY presence.”
Yes. Only one thing is truly necessary and good… That you recognize Jesus, and stop racing through life. 🏃♀️
