The joy of releasing your dream to God

Publication date Jan 23, 2023

"Déborah, the pressure is just too much. I can't handle it anymore, and that's why I'm about to destroy my body." Crying, a world-famous superstar lay in my arms backstage.

I, on the other hand, had just started fresh with my music, and for me, it was a great privilege to be allowed to interact with these superstars at all! But what I experienced in this scene wasn't always beautiful, as I witnessed again at that moment.

Although it looked great on social media to share pictures of these tours with world-famous faces, I decided to step back and "wait and see" (a simple phrase, yet so hard to put into practice) what door God would open for me.

Even as a young girl, I had a dream that I wanted to make music that changed lives…not music that changed me (the core of who God made me to be). Have you ever asked yourself what's really behind your dream, friend? Is experiencing success your main goal, or do you desire to pass on God's love through your dream?

In the Bible, Hannah, Elkanah's wife, also had a dream: "Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the LORD. And she made this vow: 'O LORD of Heaven's Armies, if You will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to You. He will be Yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the LORD, his hair will never be cut.'" (1 Samuel 1:10-11, NLT)

1 Samuel also tells us that Hannah had been depressed before (see 1 Samuel 1:7-8), just like the superstar sobbing in my arms.  But when Hannah prayed this prayer, she was set free: "…Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad." (1 Samuel 1:18, NLT)

friend, if you, like Hannah, make the decision to give your dream to God for your whole lifetime, you'll be fulfilled and abounding in joy no one can take from you. That's the kind of joy that remains! The impact, then, of what you do won't just be for a short time—it will be for eternity!

friend, are you ready to give your dream to God, releasing it into His hands?

You are a miracle!
