Your investment is worth it!

“Is it worth going there?”

When was the last time you asked yourself that question?

We live in a world where everything seems to have to pay off. Effort, care, sacrifice—these are all fine as long as they bring something in return: a good feeling, a little applause, maybe even influence.

But that’s nothing new. Jesus had just announced His death for the third time when James and John really missed the mark. They came up to Jesus and said:

“Teacher, we want you to do us a favor.” (Mark 10:35 NLT)

Maybe Jesus’ heart lit up for a moment—“Are they ready to walk this difficult road with me?” But no… Their request was selfish, self-centered, and just as human as we all are:

“When you sit on your glorious throne, we want to sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.” (Mark 10:37 NLT)

SERIOUSLY?

Jesus is about to go to the cross, and they’re thinking, “But what about me?”

Maybe they were thinking: “Hey, we’ve given up so much to follow Jesus! I deserve at least a seat of honor in heaven for all I’ve done.”

Oh: In this world we live in, we’re taught to believe the highest goal is to be seento be recognized, applauded, promoted, followed.

But Jesus didn’t need any of that, even though He deserved it all. He came as the Son of God. And yet He expected none of the things we chase after. He wasn’t focused on himself—He was focused on others. On you.

He didn’t ask, “Is it worth it for me to go there?” He simply went and rejoiced if even one person was helped because of it.

When your heart thinks with heaven’s mindset, you stop asking: “Is it worth it for me?” and start asking: “Is it worth it for you?”

If I go, if I serve, if I invest my time…

I’m no better than you, but I want to become better. Do you too?

You are a miracle!
