The Unperfect Journey

Publication date Dec 24, 2025

On that first Christmas, God sent His Son in an unusual way. Instead of a royal coronation befitting a Heavenly King, God sent His Son humbly and quietly. He slipped the Messiah into a small town in ancient Israel.

The journey wasn't pristine or perfect, but challenging. Can you imagine the judgment Joseph and Mary faced? "You two haven’t been together, but you’re pregnant, and an angel told you it's all God's plan? Really?" Their struggle was real. And it matters because ours are, too.

Just like Mary and Joseph stayed true to God’s plan, so can you. Even in your struggles, find comfort in the truth that God's plan may be challenging, but it is always perfect.

Mary, nine months pregnant, rides a donkey for 90 miles to Bethlehem. When they arrive, there is no room for them. Why? Because God was making room for all of us! A stable became the birthplace of a King. The very animals God had created so beautifully bore witness to the birth of Jesus.

While Joseph and Mary were dealing with this real pain, a regular night for some outcast shepherds was interrupted by an angelic choir declaring: the promised Messiah was here! The shepherds—banned from testifying in a Jewish court because they were "unclean"—were the first eyewitnesses. God's plan is so perfect that He invites the very people others say are disqualified to witness His presence.

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’” (Luke 2:10-11, NIV)

You were on the guest list for the arrival of a King. He came for you and to you. Your imperfect life was worthy of Jesus’ arrival! Worthy because of His perfect cause, mission, timing, and love!

Let’s pray together… Dear God, thank you for showing me that your perfect plan unfolds in unexpected ways. Thank you for choosing the humble and the outcast. Help me to see your goodness and your presence, especially when my life feels challenging and imperfect. Amen.

Never forget, my friend.

You are a miracle!
