How Maëva Found Healing and Freedom From Anxiety

At fifteen, I woke up one morning with a strange, unexplainable feeling. Something inside me had changed overnight. I felt weak, overwhelmed with fear, and unable to understand why. Day by day, it grew worse until I could no longer go to school or even take the bus.

For a year, I stayed home with homeschooling, isolated and losing friends, too ashamed to admit what I was going through.

A Diagnosis and a Warning

When I finally saw a psychologist, she told me, “Maëva, people like you need to be hospitalized, otherwise they will spend the rest of their lives in the dark of their room.” Already feeling so alone, those words terrified me. But soon, I entered a mental health facility, where I stayed for two years.

At first, I met other young people who faced the same struggles, and I felt less alone. But by the second year, things grew worse. Fear consumed me: fear of leaving the house, of shopping, of traveling, of eating, of sleeping away from home. I was tired of living that way. Tired of life itself.

The Night Everything Changed

One evening, while watching a movie with the others, a wave of anxiety hit me harder than ever before. I felt desperate. Standing outside the infirmary, waiting to ask for medication I normally refused, I called my mother. We spoke for an hour, but nothing changed.

Then suddenly, without me doing anything, I felt the crushing ball of anxiety in my stomach rise up and leave me. At that very moment, I heard a voice deep within me say: “Maëva, your father prayed for you just now.”

Shocked, I messaged my dad: “Did you pray for me just now?” He replied, “Yes, why?”

God had touched me.

Discovering Jesus for Myself

Even though I had grown up hearing about Jesus, I had always felt God was far away. But this moment changed everything.

I began reading the Bible and discovered who Jesus truly is and what He had done for me. I realized that my sins had separated me from God. Alone in my room, I prayed, asking for forgiveness and deciding to turn away from sin. I asked Jesus to set me free from all my fears.

Not long after, I woke up in the hospital and felt… good. For the first time in years, I wasn’t anxious. I passed my exams and even my driving test without fear. Things I once thought were impossible.

A Brand-New Life

After two years, I left the hospital and continued my studies. I found myself doing things I once thought I never could, like presenting in front of a class without fear.

In 2014, I was baptized, received the Holy Spirit, and everything changed. My fears, anxiety, nightmares, and sins were gone. Jesus gave me a brand-new life.

From Silence to Boldness

For three years, I traveled with young Christian friends across France, sharing my testimony on stage. The very first time I spoke, it was in front of 2,000 people. As I told them, “I used to be afraid of being around people,” I realized the miracle—there I was, boldly speaking to a crowd.

Today, I continue to walk with Jesus.

I am free from fear.
I am free from sin.
I am completely new.

My favorite Bible verse 2 Corinthians 5:17

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
